Manual of parrot behavior

This is definitely not an average book about parrots and their behavior. Although there are basic things discussed as nutrition, behavior of parrots in captivity, and the importance of toys and necessity of foraging, the information is written down from the view of scientists.

The only drawback of this book, I found that I sometimes struggled with the many technical terms regarding parrot information as upcoming parrot expert. This book is basically a summary of all scientific studies that affect the behavior of parrots. These include:
  • The influence of neophobia in hand rearing birds.
  • Which kind of aggressive behavior can be distinguished?
  • And how can you recognize such behavior and which factors cause it?
  • The essential importance of enriching the surrounding area and their lives.
  • When there is abnormal behavior, such as excessive screaming, stereotyped behavior, how to handle?
  • Why do parrots need foraging?
  • Which kind of factors may play a role in feather picking?
  • Is this feather picking behavior solvable?
  • How important is living together for species that are held in captive?
  • Which diseases are known to affect parrots?
  • Do parrots have an imprinting phase in the first period of their lives?
  • Their preferences of a nest box..
For me this was very useful book during my education in becoming a parrot behavior expert.
